An Auckland maintenance worker has been treated on a busy central district street after he fell two-to-three storeys from a city building.

Police said they were called to the corner of Symonds and Mount Streets at around 11:10am where a person carrying out maintenance work on a building had fallen.

"The person was treated at the scene by Ambulance and we understand that at this stage ... the injuries are not serious," a police spokeswoman said.

"The incident has now been referred to Worksafe for investigation."
