North Canterbury earthquake: Gerry Brownlee surveys damage in Kaikoura and Blenheim

What was once an Elms homestead in Kaikoura is now just a pile of rubble.

Tragically, not all of the family inside made it out alive - one person was killed after the magnitude 7.5 earthquake.

Prime Minister John Key has said he was confronted by "utter devastation" in Kaikoura.

Earthquake Commission Minister Gerry Brownlee spent the day surveying the quake there and in Blenheim, and spoke to Story.
