A person has been killed in a two-car collision that left a vehicle in flames in Opitiki, a town in eastern Bay of Plenty on Thursday night.
The crash occurred near the Pipi Beds on Waiotahi Beach Rd at about 8:22pm, police say.
One person was able to exit the car they were in, though the other erupted in flames. The person who died was in the car that was on fire, a fire spokesperson told Newshub.
Waiotahi Beach Rd has been cordoned off at Verrall Rd and Parerata Ridge Rd.
Emergency services remain at the scene.
