Story's regional series: Building a life in Hamilton

If you're sick of Aucklanders complaining about the cost of living and being stuck in traffic, then you'll want to watch our regional series.

Story is comparing life in Auckland to the regions - where you could find a good job and an even better lifestyle - and we'll be comparing house prices, commutes and wages.

The average house price will be based on a home in the suburb of Sandringham, at $1.4 million, and the average commute from there to the CBD in rush hour is 30 minutes.

For an apprentice plumber, wages are $37,000 per annum, while an experienced plumber will get $75,000.

If you're hungry and looking for a quick meal, a pie will set you back $4.80 and a flat white at $4.40.

The first region under the spotlight, an hour-and-a-half south of Auckland, is the city of Hamilton.
