The Olympic silver medallist you didn't know about

Natalie Rooney has to be one of the least-known Olympic silver medallists in New Zealand.

Could it be because of her chosen sport, trap shooting? Perhaps it's not widely publicised by the media or viewed as athletic by those who don't understand?

Story roped in Josh Kronfeld and former Bachelor Art Green for a competition starting with knife throwing at a wooden target.

Surprisingly, Rooney threw the knives all over the target, but being an Olympian shooter, came right in the archery competition.

Trap shooting involves targets coming out of a trap 15 metres in front of you and travelling away from you at 70 to 100km per hour.

"It's definitely a conversation starter when you say I like moving targets as well as moving away from me," says the athlete.

She says like any sport, shooting requires dedication and you've got to want to achieve. Hours of practice are involved.

"It's for anyone, any body shape, any age. Anyone can give it a go and do well at it. Once you've got the skill, it all becomes a mental game and shooting is hugely mental."

So how did a young farm girl learning to shoot with her brothers end up as an Olympic medallist?
