A woman has been flown to Auckland Hospital in a critical condition after being found in a paddock south of Auckland with stab wounds.
Members of the public reported a car appeared to have run off Morley Rd in Waiuku.
The car was empty, but the critically injured woman in her twenties was found in a paddock around 300m from the car a short time later.
An Auckland DHB spokesperson says the woman is now in a stable condition.
A police first aid kit has been left at the spot where the woman was found (Newshub.)
A local has told Newshub that the victim's sister had been out all night searching for the woman.
Police are working to find out how the woman sustained the injuries.
A large number of detectives and a police forensic team are at the scene.
