Jo York's people 'moo-ver' turned into a mobile petting zoo as she moved her animals through Kaikoura to safety following last week's quake.

Ms York was evacuated from the Hapuku area over fears a dam caused by a land slip on the Hapuku River could burst after the magnitude-7.8 tremor.

It was a cow's face spotted in the van window that made us stop in our tracks.

Pulling her over to investigate, we found Ms York with her two goats Ken and Lee, Miss Piggy the pig and Spirit the calf all in the back.

"If the cow poops I am going to blame you" Ms York told us.

The animals had been camping out at Ms York's mum's house, until the all clear was given in Hapuku.

She and her animals are now safely on their way home.
