A 24-year-old man has been arrested after the theft of expensive equipment from a Christchurch property during the tsunami evacuation on November 14.

Christchurch police say the man has been charged after he stole electronic equipment and an expensive hearing aid device, along with the victim's work ute.

The man will appear in the Christchurch District Court on December 21.

Police say this incident is a timely reminder to ensure neighbours or friends regularly check on your property and clear any mail if you are on holiday, and report any unusual activity to police.
