The landowner who controls the access road to Pike River mine has withdrawn permission for protesters to occupy the land.

Earlier this month, victims' families took legal control of the privately owned piece of road needed to access the site.

Solid Energy wants to seal the mine, but the families of the victims don't want it to go ahead with the bodies of the 29 miners killed in 2010 still inside.

After discussions with the landowner, Solid Energy has written to the protesters to point out the company has full legal access to the site.

"As a result of these agreements there is no basis for the protest group to prevent Solid Energy from accessing the Pike River mine along the piece of road at issue," Solid Energy said in a statement.

This has been acknowledged by the landowner, who has also told protesters blocking the road is illegal.
