Kiwis can now claim the title to the world's best new luxury hotel.

Helena Bay Lodge in Northland came first place in a list of top luxury accommodation around the world, released by Luxury Travel Intelligence.

It came in ahead of hotels in France, Italy and the US, with the travel group saying it's destined to become one of the world's best hotels.

"Every conceivable luxury is to hand. The architecture and décor is intentionally on the bland side, so as not to distract from the beautiful surrounding landscape.

"While financial investment doesn't guarantee luxury and service, we are pleased to report that it does here."

The lodge, north of Whangerei, opened one month ago and looks onto Helena Bay waterfront which National Geographic rated second-equal on a list of the world's top rated islands, coastlines and beaches.

Housing only ten guests at a time, facilities include a massage room, a 25-metre heated swimming pool, library, and an outdoor fire pit.
