Employee chases robber with knife away
After a scuffle the offender fled.

A man who threatened staff at knifepoint at a Palmerston North petrol station left empty-handed after a brave worker chased him away.

Police are still looking for the man who entered the Challenge Spotswood service station at around 6.15am on Friday and demanded money from staff.

After a scuffle, an attendant chased the man through Spotswood College Grounds before losing him in Belair Avenue.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Aro praised the bravery of the worker, but reminds others to prioritise their own safety.

"In this instance, the attendant was able to provide police with a positive line of inquiry to identify the offender, while still avoiding harm.

"However, we'd remind anyone subject to an incident of this nature to seek safety and to call police immediately."

The offender's described as tall and slim, wearing a dark coloured hoodie and gloves and carrying a dark blue bag.
