A man has serious injuries after he was thrown from a car when it crashed on Powells St in Hamilton early on Saturday morning.
The driver, fleeing police, had failed to stop for a routine check. The car crashed just before 3:30am and the male passenger was thrown onto the road, while the driver drove off.
The passenger is now in Waikato Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver - a 20-year-old man - was later caught by police, and will appear in the Hamilton District Court on Monday.
The serious crash unit is investigating.
