Work is continuing on Dyers Pass Rd in Christchurch so it can finally be reopened after the Port Hills fire.

Firefighters continue to work on hotspots from the fire, which was being monitoring overnight.

Completing the work needed to reopen Dyers Pass Rd is a top priority, officials say.

The road is a key route over the Port Hills via the suburb of Cashmere.

An update on the road will be provided on Monday.

The condition of the road was good overall and edge markers were being replaced on Sunday afternoon.

A geotechnical assessment of scattered rocks above the road has been completed.

Damage to guard rails and trees will be addressed on Monday and power cables will be checked.
