Dunedin hairdresser attempts to cut through world record

A Dunedin hairdresser is now hours into an attempt to break the world hair cutting record.

Stacey Warrington is trying to complete more haircuts in 24 hours than anyone has ever done before.

She started at midday, turning a south Dunedin bar into a makeshift hair salon.

"Obviously throughout the evening that's going to be a little bit harder," she told Newshub.

"It's probably the last thing on someone's mind at three in the morning to go get a haircut, but we'll see how it goes."

The current record is 526 cuts in that time, meaning she needs to average one cut every three minutes.

Ms Warrington says her biggest concerns are cramping of the wrists and keeping up her energy.
