It's a miracle: 'Stolen' church pews were never stolen

The search for pews stolen from an Auckland church can be called off  - it turns out they were never stolen in the first place.

Police reported that the heavy wooden seats had been taken during a break-in from Mt Eden Presbyterian Church on Esplanade Road on Sunday, February 12.

After the team from Three's The Project discussed the supposed theft on air, they received the news that a contracting company had been in contact with police to say that they had in fact removed the pews.

Apparently the church is due to be demolished, and the pews had been removed to begin the dismantling of the building.

Newshub's political editor Patrick Gower, who was a guest host on tonight's episode, joked "and you say you never see good news on the television", to which host Jesse Mulligan replied "that wasn't good news, that just wasn't even news".
