Man charged after allegedly firing shotgun

A man has been charged after an armed offenders squad callout in central Hawke's Bay on Saturday night which closed State Highway 2.

Police were called to a domestic disturbance at an address in Otane just after 8pm, where a person was reported to have fired a shotgun into the air.

There were no reported injuries. 

The armed offenders squad was called and cordons were in place until around 11:45pm.

A 51-year-old Hawke's Bay man has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm near a dwelling, and threatening behaviour, and is due to appear in Hastings District Court on March 3.
