A 19-month-old child was taken to hospital after being found in a motel where pure methamphetamine was being smoked, police say.

A tipoff from a member of the public led officers to the motel in the Bay of Plenty earlier this month, Senior Sergeant Mark Pakes said.

Three people were arrested and the child was taken to hospital for treatment.

The 19-month-old has subsequently been referred to child welfare services.

"Police would to thank the member of the public for providing information which enabled investigators to make these arrests and ensure the child’s safety," Mr Pakes said.

A woman, 24, has been charged with allowing premises to be used to consume methamphetamine, police said.

A 47-year-old man was arrested in connection with outstanding warrants and charged with possessing methamphetamine for supply, possessing methamphetamine utensils and possessing cannabis utensils.
