Pot-head hedgehog saved from prickly situation

Arrowtown police have apprehended a late-night prickly offender who was caught stumbling around the streets with a yoghurt pottle on his head.

The hedgehog was found by officers patrolling on Buckingham St and was described as "looking very drunk and walking into things".

Police posted a video on their Facebook page of the incident.

"After a brief foot pursuit the subject was cornered and the yoghurt pot removed. Crime prevention advice provided about going through other people's rubbish," the post reads.

The tale ended happily for the hedgehog who "lived to fight another day".

But this isn't the first time police have had a prickly situation on their hands, with two of the animals getting their snouts stuck in fast food containers in recent years.

"We hope the prevention advice given will see a decrease in hedgehog food container related incidents," police say.

Facebook commenters joined in the tongue-in-cheek tone, with one commenting: "Seems you've had a spike in these kinds of incidents."
