The search for a freediver who went missing near Sandfly Bay in Dunedin has been halted for the night.
The man was out on a boat with a group of friends when he failed to resurface.
Police got a call at 6:55pm, and launched the search with help from search and rescue teams, the Coastguard and helicopters.
They have now been stood down and the search will continue in the morning.
