Trial begins for five over Dome Valley attack

Five people are set to stand trial over the alleged kidnapping, beating and sexual violation of a woman left critically injured on a highway north of Auckland.

Nicola Jones, Julie-Ann Torrance, Cameron Te Hau Kareti Tautau Hakeke, Wayne Blackett and Michelle Blom between them face a series of charges over the alleged attack on a now-20-year-old who was found in the Dome Valley in May, 2016, and over an earlier incident in April.

A jury is scheduled to be selected for the trial this morning.

The five face various charges, including attempted murder, assault with a weapon, kidnapping, sexual violation and aggravated robbery.

The 19-year-old victim was found unconscious by a member of the public on June 9 in Dome Valley, and was flown to Auckland Hospital.
