Dome Valley attack participant shares harrowing details

A woman who took part in a drug-fuelled attack which left a 19-year-old fighting for her life by a Dome Valley roadside has given the court harrowing details of what happened that night.

Jaclyn Keates has already admitted her role in the attack, and on Friday gave evidence against four others accused of taking part.

It was at a house in Glen Eden, west Auckland, where a nail party turned into a night of drug-fuelled violence.

Keates recalled how the night unfolded.

"I think it was just like in the moment, like the peer pressure joining in," she told the court.

She smoked methamphetamine with Julie-Ann Torrance, Nicola Jones and Michelle Blom before heading to town.

They met up with Wayne Blackett in a carpark and smoked more meth, before driving to a street near Karangahape Road.

It's there she says Jones got out of the car, and returned with the victim whose arms were held down in the back seat.

"I leaned over and hit her a few times," she said.

The victim was forced into the boot when they arrived back at the Glen Eden house where Blom was living.

Keates later went downstairs, where she saw Jones holding pair of scissors.

"She had had all her hair cut off," Keates said.

The victim, naked and crouched on the floor, looked "sad and broken", she said. "There was all of us against her."

Keates then recalled how Torrance allegedly forced her to sexually violate the victim. Newshub's chosen not to share those details.

"I kind of freaked out and shut my eyes and looked away," she said. "I was disgusted about everything and I just wanted to leave."

Keates said Blackett showed up at the house as she was leaving.

In a text message to Blom the following day, Keates referred to the victim as a "gutter rat".

Keates pleaded guilty to charges of kidnap, assault with weapon and injuring with intent. She's currently serving a sentence of three years and two months in jail.
