Four cars have been involved in a crash on State Highway 1 in Chertsey near Rakaia in Canterbury which is believed to have left one car resting on the nearby rail lines.
Emergency services confirmed all trains in the area have be stopped until the rail lines are clear.
St John confirmed they are in attendance.
