Police are asking the public for sightings of a bag of money which fell from the back of a van on Crown Range Road, Cardrona on Thursday afternoon.

A total of three bags of coins fell from the van, due to a faulty lock on the white, unmarked van.

One bag was picked up by the company transporting the money, and another was picked up by a member of the public and handed in to Wanaka Police Station.

It is believed that the money, in a clear plastic bag, was lost somewhere between the top of the Crown Range Rd and Cardrona at about 3pm.

People with information about the coins are asked to contact Otago Lakes-Central Area Police, or anonymously on 0800 555 111.
