The family of former Silver Fern Tania Dalton have set up a charitable foundation to honour and remember her.

The Tania Dalton Foundation has been set up to support sports training and development for underprivileged children.

"As a passionate advocate for sports and children in New Zealand, The Tania Dalton Foundation has been created as a charitable foundation to honour and remember Tania, and act in support of sports training and development for underprivileged children," her family said on Facebook.

"There has already been an overwhelming outpouring of love, support and generosity from New Zealanders, every cent of which has been donated to the foundation."

Ms Dalton died after her life support was turned off following a brain aneurysm during a social game of touch rugby in Takapuna late February.

Ms Dalton played 12 tests for the Silver Ferns, making her debut against South Africa in 1996.

"The Dalton family would like to thank everybody for their support, contributions and the wonderful memories of Tania that have been shared," the family said.
