A resident in New Lynn, Auckland, livestreamed his rescue of his beloved 'BunBuns', whose real name is Weenie, online after his home was flooded.

Josh Parbery told Newshub he was in the midst of moving his belongings when water burst through the wall, flooding his downstairs flat.

He was livestreaming the wake of devastation in his home following the 'Tasman tempest', when he realised his pet rabbit was amongst the mess.

A rescue mission was launched and thankfully, the rabbit was unharmed. Mr Parbery was relieved to be reunited with his furry friend.

The storm has wreaked havoc across the North Island, flooding dozens of homes and closing roads.

Ten shoppers had to be rescued from stores on Great North Rd and Clark St after they were trapped by rising waters.
