One person has died after a two-car crash near Lake Pearson, Canterbury.
Three others were also injured, but none of the injuries are life-threatening.
The crash occurred on State Highway 73 at around 5pm tonight, trapping a woman in her car.
After she was freed she was flown to Christchurch hospital but died from her injuries.
While the road remains open, police say it could be closed for a time while the serious crash unit investigates.
