A man found by members of the public outside the Sumner Surf Lifesaving Club with serious head injuries on Thursday has died in hospital.

That means the three people charged with the assault are now facing the upgraded charge of murder, police say.

A 38-year-old woman, 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old are due to reappear in court on Monday.

The man was found in the surf club's carpark about 10pm on Thursday. He was taken to hospital where he had surgery.

Police said on Friday that the woman had been arrested and charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to the incident.

The 16-year-old was initially charged with burglary, and with being an accessory after the fact.

The investigation is continuing.
