World Masters Games promotes friendship among volunteers

In just over a month the world's largest multi-sport event will begin in Auckland.

The World Masters Games is organised on the philosophy of promoting friendship, and that was obvious on Saturday at the orientation for the event's volunteers.

John Campbell is half way through his first day as a volunteer for the World Masters Games.

You could almost call him a full-time volunteer. He spends most days helping out at different organisations across Auckland.

Today he, along with 700 others were picking up their accreditation and getting some training for the games.

"If everybody did just one bit of volunteering a week, the world would be a better place," he says.

It's people like Mr Campbell that make events of this size possible.

And after today, they're all suited and booted, masters in the game of volunteering.
