'You alright back there Postman Pat?' - Ramarama man saves postie from floods

South Auckland man Cameron Vernon was busy on Wednesday - he rescued nine vehicles and dozens of people after flash floods in Ramarama.

He's the owner of landscaping business Vernon Developments, so when he sees a vehicle trapped in the water he has the heavy machinery to help.

Video of Mr Vernon towing the postman's van has had over 1000 views since it was posted to Facebook on Wednesday.

"Now this is the craziest thing I think I've done now...we're retrieving the postman on the car trailer," he says.

"Have a look at the tractor in the water. I don't know if you can see in the mirror, but the postie's on the bloody back of the trailer.

"And it is nearly in my doors. This has got to be some of the worst flooding - oh, anyone want to go surfing? There's a tidal wave!"

Mr Vernon's vehicle plows through the murky brown water.

"Don't worry, guys! The postie will still be on time,'' he shouts. "This is buzzy! You alright back there, Postman Pat?''

The water comes up to his wheels, but he doesn't slow down.

"Mail's on time, brother!" he says.

Mr Vernon finishes by revealing the other vehicles he has saved from the flood waters, including vans, two Nissans, a BMW and two Audis.
