Verity McLean will be remembered next week at a private funeral in Invercargill.

Ms McLean was allegedly shot dead by her husband Ben McLean who is also a serving Constable for the Invercargill Police.

McLean also allegedly shot another man, Garry William Duggan, who was with Ms McLean at the time.

The family of Ms McLean will hold a private service for the mother of three and are also considering a further memorial service for the public at a later date.

Police Area Commander Superintendent Paul Basham says they appreciate the way the community have supported everyone involved.

"I would like to express my deep appreciation for the support shown to Invercargill police both from the local community and beyond," he says.

"This means so much to our staff.  We are acutely aware of the impact an event like this has across the community, of which we are a part.

"Our focus in the coming days will be to continue supporting all the families impacted by this tragedy, ensuring a meticulous, impartial investigation continues, and supporting our own staff who have been affected."

Both the accused and second victim remain in hospital in a stable condition.
