Gisborne police are looking for an armed man who held up a local dairy with a weapon early on Saturday morning.

Police say he walked into the Huxley Rd Dairy at around 6:15am armed with a long, sharp weapon.

He threatened the shop worker, who managed to chase the robber from the store.

The worker was not injured, but has been left very shaken.

The offender was well-disguised, wearing dark clothing and a covering over his face.

He was last seen by witnesses in the Daphne St area nearby.
