A hunter missing on the Kapiti Coast has managed to walk to safety after spending a night outdoors.
The man became separated from his hunting group of seven on private property in rural Reikorangi on Saturday afternoon.
The alarm was raised at 8pm after he failed to meet up with the others, with police and Land Search and Rescue crews from several districts due to be joined by helicopters in scouring the area on Sunday.
However, the man had managed to walk himself to safety by the early afternoon, a police spokeswoman said.
The group had earlier said the man was well dressed for the conditions and had a small amount of food with him, according to police.
According to the MetService, the temperature in the area only dropped to about 15degC overnight.
