Sweet treats aim to leave bitter taste

They're sweet treats which aim to deliver a bitter taste in the mouths of their recipients.

Wellington bakery Tomboy pipes any message onto a cake  - no matter how offensive.

Nothing's off limits. Seriously, nothing.

Tomboy owner Kate Marinkovich says "the first order was probably my favourite, which was 'Happy f***ing Friday you little c***ts'".

The bakery does do more "normal" cakes for more civilised events, but the rude cakes - nicknamed Tomboy Black - have been going since January.

They started out simply because a customer asked.

"The idea came from that - by saying we can do cakes for anything. Divorces, as well as weddings," says Ms Marinkovich.

Since then, they've been a form of stress relief for the bakers.

"They're funny for us; it lightens what we do."

You can use a cake to break up with your partner, quit your job, or tell a flatmate to do the dishes more often.

"The fun part about these cakes is you can literally write anything you like, the onus is on you. We're just the messenger," says Ms Marinkovich.

The writing isn't exactly calligraphy, but it's not supposed to be.

"The worse that it's written, the better it is, because generally they're written in anger or frustration."

Of course, none of it is meant to be taken seriously.

Although if someone does take offence - at least the taste is seriously good.
