Police have made an arrest in relation to a robbery at a Tauranga spice shop on Wednesday night.

The 59-year-old man will appear in Manukau District Court on Friday afternoon, charged with assault with intent to rob the Quality Food and Spice Store on Cameron Rd.

The offender demanded money, but fled following a struggle with a store worker. The victim received minor injuries.

Police say offending of this type rarely goes unpunished.

"In recent times in western Bay of Plenty, the majority of offenders for this type of offending have been arrested and put before the courts," says Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner.

"These offenders are now either serving or are about to serve lengthy jail sentences, having taken minimal amounts of cash or product during these robberies."
