Two tourists killed in a crash between a rental van and ute in Canterbury have been named by Singaporean media.

The woman and man were technology company executives Rena Ong and Chen Zhi Hao, according to Singapore's Straits Times.

In a statement to the Straits Times, Crestron Asia-Pacific chief Stuart Craig said staff at the company were "devastated".

"They made a wonderful contribution to our company and were well-loved and respected throughout the audiovisual industry," he said.

New Zealand Police declined to confirm their identities on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to the crash at the intersection of Breadings Rd and State Highway 1 in Bankside, near Dunsandel, on Thursday, with a third person taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The pair were reported to have arrived in New Zealand earlier in the day.

Comment has been requested from Singapore's High Commission in Wellington.
