The world's first giant copper teapot scooter

It looks like something out of Alice in Wonderland and a mad tea-party.

A giant copper teapot that is in fact a specially-designed mobility scooter.

Kat Douglas created her mobility scooter disguised as life-size copper-plated teapot.

"I think a couple of people have seen a mad hatter going past in a teapot and wondered if there's something in Christchurch's water that means they're hallucinating," she says.

Inspired by her love of Steampunk, she saw an opportunity to craft something unique and bold with a lid of all things.

She suffers from herniated disc's causing back pain unable to walk long distances and needs the use of the scooter.

"We had this idea let's build that into a giant teapot...it's fun...if you have to use one what I say is if you have to use one why not make it fun,"

She bought the broken mobility scooter off TradeMe, attached a wooden frame and covered it in copper.

Its fully balanced and just the right size to squeeze down the footpath or street.

Every day she drives a few kilometres through the city from home, to the shop, safely inside her teapot to the Steampunk shop.

"It makes people laugh it gives them a giggle when they see me in a teapot driving down the street," Ms Douglas says.
