Police are searching for a young man after two women were indecently assaulted while out jogging in Auckland on Tuesday night.

The first incident took place on Acorn St in Royal Oak around 7:30pm, when the victim was approached by a young male described as being in his teens or early twenties, and with a slim build.

A second incident happened soon after, less than 500m away, and police believe the two assaults are linked.

"We're very concerned at the brazen nature of these attacks, and would like to hear from anyone who saw anyone acting suspicious in the Royal Oak area last night," says Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Armstrong.

The victims were left shaken and alarmed after the attacks, but police say neither of them suffered injuries.

"People are entitled to feel safe in their neighbourhoods. We want to assure the public that we take these matters extremely seriously, and have increased patrols in the area in order to identify the person responsible, and prevent further offences," Det Snr Sgt Armstrong says.

Police recommend that when running at night people are in pairs or groups and carry mobile phones with them, as well as sticking to well-lit areas for extra security.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact police on 09 302 6400 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
