Car in flames on Auckland motorway

A car engulfed in flames on the side of an Auckland motorway on Friday disrupted traffic, but the occupants seem to have gotten away unscathed.

Two fire crews were called to northbound side of the Southwestern Motorway near the Queenstown Road off-ramp at around midday.

The fire was extinguished "within minutes", the fire service says.

Video posted to Twitter by the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) shows all lanes were still open, but cars were cautiously keeping their distance from the burning vehicle.

"Expect delays & reduced visibility is the area," the tweet read.

The NZTA says all lanes are now clear.

There were no reported injured in the incident, and the cause of the fire is not known.
