How you can help support Christchurch's first cat cafe

A KickStarter fund has been set up to support the idea of Christchurch's first cat café, Catnap.

Hopeful owners Nate Ball and Alyssa O'Connor have set a goal of $25,000 to get the business up and running.

"There have been some cat cafés popping up around the country over the last few years," Mr Ball says.

"We think it is about time Christchurch joined the cool cats club."

More than 100 people have already donated nearly $6000 to the cause and, depending on how much you donate, you could even get naming rights to one of the felines.

"Our café will operate both as a regular café and as a place for rescued cats and kittens to live," Mr Ball says.

"This whole thing will be no easy task, so we really need [the] help to make Catnap Café an amazing place both for the people and more importantly for the cats of Christchurch."

The couple, who volunteer for cat rescue Christchurch, say there will be a mix of cats on the premises.

"There will be a few resident cats, who we will adopt personally, who live at the café permanently," Mr Ball says.

"[That's] as well as an ever-changing mix of adorable cats and kittens which will be available for adoption."

The garden city's first cat café is hoping to open in February 2018.
