Mika Haka has just announced he is The Opportunities Party candidate for Auckland Central.
He also runs a programme for at risk youth - and one young man he's been helping has just tried to take his life.
It comes as a UNICEF report has found New Zealand's has the highest rate of adolescent suicide of any country.
