Illegal hunters killed a pet goat and fired a shot through the door of an outdoor toilet at Tuatapere in Southland, police say.
The incident occurred in the Rowallan Forest in the early hours of June 17, when a black double-cab ute entered two isolated residential properties.
At one of the home the occupants of the ute killed a pet goat and fired a rifle shot through the door of an outhouse.
A police spokeswoman said the incidents were "extremely disturbing" for the victims and are appealing for information.
It is believed the ute had a light bar - possibly LED - on the roof, to provide light for hunting.
