The man who killed Auckland woman Blessie Gotingco has failed in his bid to appeal his murder conviction.

Tony Robertson was sent to prison for a minimum of 24 years for Mrs Gotingco's rape and murder three years ago.

Robertson hit Mrs Gotingco with his car before he took her to his home where she was raped and then stabbed in 2014.

He claimed in his appeal that running her down was an accident and he thought that was what killed her.

He took his fight for his conviction to be overturned to the Supreme Court saying the jury should have been given the option of manslaughter.

The decision said Robertson did not raise anything in court to suggest manslaughter could have been an alternative charge.
