Methven Rugby Club has put the call out to the person who tore up one of their sports fields to come forward.

The club posted images of the damage caused by the vehicle performing what appears to be donuts on its number three practice field.

The club also said on its Facebook page it has a description of the vehicle after checking its security cameras.

The ground was covered by snow after a winter white-out in recent days across the South Island.

That snow may have spared the club from serious damage to the grounds.

"It's not too bad luckily, because obviously it was on top of snow," Club secretary John Fulton told Fairfax.

"It'll repair up alright, but it could have been a lot worse."

It comes after several fields were left destroyed at a sports ground at Pleasant Point near Timaru in May.

Groundsman Chris Murphy said several fields were destroyed and may not be able to be used during winter sports.

"It's the worst I've seen it and we've had idiots on the golf course do this type of thing [before]," he said.

"We [had] just done our renovations, we had [the sports fields] looking really good that's been wasted now, unfortunately."
