A Christchurch woman has pleaded guilty to assaulting and then strangling her partner of seven weeks to death.

Zariah Samson, 25, appeared in the Christchurch High Court on Tuesday where she pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter in a deal with the Crown to downgrade her initial charge of murder.

The victim, Cory Protos, who was 30-years-old at the time, died on April, 26, 2014.

According to the Christchurch Court News, Mr Protos went to pick up some personal property from Samson's address on that day before heading to another address where he met up with Samson.

There, she became angry and accused him of spreading rumours about her.

At that address, Mr Protos was made to take off all of his clothing to prove he wasn't wearing any recording devices.

He was then assaulted and bound by his hands and covered with a blanket where Samson punched and kicked him.

Later that night Mr Protos went with Samson to another address in Christchurch where he showered before the argument continued.

It was then Samson caused a superficial cut to his neck and wrapped a cable around his neck and strangled him.

She then wrapped him in a blanket and pushed him under a bed.

The next day police spoke to Samson where she told them the pair had got in to an argument about "trust issues."

She claimed the argument escalated and a gun was then held to her head before she strangled him.

Samson has been remanded in custody and will appear for sentencing on Friday.
