It was 1971 when Kevin Hercock first picked up a pen and paper and started his career as a journalist.
Herk, as we all call him, is retiring today.
In a career that spanned five decades, Herk made the call on some of New Zealand's biggest news stories - and he's seen a few changes around newsrooms as well.
So, before hangs up his headphones, puts down his pen and kicks off his amateur fishing career for real, we thought we better have him down here for a chat.
