Whangarei man jams on his bass while waiting at bridge crossing

While most people complain about getting stuck in traffic, one Whangarei man made the most of a wait at a bascule bridge in typical Kiwi style.

The Te Matau ā Pohe bridge takes a couple of minutes to open and close, allowing boats to pass under the Hatea River.

But the man, sporting long locks and a bucket hat, wastes no time plugging in his electric bass guitar to the speaker in his car boot to jam out some tunes for fellow motorists.

The video was taken last month by a local man. It was today shared to the Only in New Zealand Facebook page, and has since gained more than 2000 likes.

"What a bloody legend," one Facebook user commented.

Another said, "only in NZ… more like only in Whangarei!!"
