Two men, one wielding a hammer, robbed a rural Waikato service station on Friday night.

Around 6:10pm they entered the Gull station in Whitikahu and made off with cash, confectionery and nine trays of cigarettes.

The three staff were left shaken, but unhurt.

The offenders, both believed to be Maori, wore balaclavas and were dressed from head-to-toe in black.

A late-model 1990s silver hatchback was seen in the area - police say possibly a Mazda Familia.

Anyone with information on the robbery is urged to call Hamilton police on (07) 858 6200 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
