Bodies found in search for missing Rotorua uncle and nephew

Two bodies have been found in the search for an uncle and nephew missing from Rotorua for more than a week.

Police are treating the disappearance and death of Raymond Fleet, 51, and his 21-year-old nephew James Fleet, as suspicious.

On Thursday, searchers found two bodies in the Mamaku Forest.

"While the bodies are yet to be formally identified, police at this stage believe they are the missing men," Detective Senior Sergeant Mark van Kempen told Newshub.

There had been no reported sightings of the pair since they disappeared from their family home last Monday.

Snr Sgt van Kempen said the disappearance was "out of character" for them and they had no reason to believe the pair had willingly left.

Police are continuing to investigate, and it's hoped post mortems will identify the cause of death.
