Dunedin television news anchor Craig Storey, 51, has been sentenced to four months community detention after admitting assaulting a woman with intent to injure.
He had previously pleaded guilty to the September 2016 incident in which he grabbed a 69-year-old woman around the neck, in an attack lasting 30 seconds.
He was also sentenced to nine months supervision, 150 hours of community work and ordered to pay $1500 in reparation to the victim.
Storey appeared emotionless in the Dunedin District Court on Tuesday after the sentence was handed down.
He was a newsreader for Channel 39's The South Today nightly news bulletin until he was stood down in June, while the station's owner Allied Press investigated.
