Police have referred the death of Michael Andrew Phillips to the Coroner, after deciding his death near the Opihi River in south Canterbury was not suspicious.

Mr Phillips, 45, was found dead near the Skipton Bridge on August 1, with his car nearby.

Following extensive enquiries, including a call for witnesses, police have determined that no one else was involved in his death.

Inspector David Gaskin, Area Commander for Mid-South Canterbury, said police were appreciative of the support received from the Fairlie community while carrying out their inquiries.
